Eclipses

Analysis

In astronomy, an eclipse occurs when orbital motion results in a shadow being cast over one heavenly body by another. In the case of a lunar eclipse, the earth travels between the sun and the moon, preventing the sun's light from reaching it. The moon appears to dim and turn deep red in color. In the case of a solar eclipse, the moon travels between the earth and the sun, blocking out the sun's light. The sun appears to be "consumed" or overtaken by shadow.

In magical belief, this is a time of crisis and reversal, when normal forces are subverted or turned on their head. This can be a potent time for opening new possibilities, but also a time when vigilance is necessary and extra attention to purification and banishment will be required.
