Who is the Seventh Soldier?
From Barbelith
Prior to the raid on Miracle Mesa in Seven Soldiers 0, Vigilante says something like, "The seventh got cold feet". As we see again and again, groups of six don't do well against the Sheeda.
So who was this absent Seventh Soldier?
There was a bit of speculating on this question at Barbelith (http://www.barbelith.com/topic/19871/from/140#post424191).
Suggestions included:
- Shining Knight, in utter insurety, somewhere. Because the sword. On the cover.
- vallick of the DC boards (http://dcboards.warnerbros.com/web/thread.jspa?threadID=2000013352&tstart=0) offered what may possibly have been a 'wood, trees, fanboy' case study (it may, too, be brilliance, and much superior to the above guess) by suggesting the skull in one of the team beat-panels represents Deadman.
- Alternatively the answer may have been rather more cryptic and insubstantive; the missing soldier could be as the Fifth Horseman in Doom Patrol's 'The Painting that Ate Paris'.
- Knighteowle suggested the answer is that Dyna-Mite Dan is wearing the dyna-rings of 2 different heroes: those of "T.N.T." (Thomas "Tex" N. Thomas,) and his sidekick "Dan the Dyna-Mite" (Daniel Dunbar - later known simply as Dyna-Mite.} Daniel Dunbar was the spokesman for "Old Justice". So Dyna-Mite Dan represents 2 golden age heroes to accompany the other 5, making 7 soldiers.
But as it turns out in Bulleteer #2, the seventh soldier was to be that title's titular character, Alix Harrower; she initially responded to the ad, but lost the nerve, suddenly feeling "...like that was the last thing I wanted".
