There's a short story by Primo Levi called "The Mirror Maker", in which a chap invents a type of mirror which shows you as others think of you when you affix it to their forehead. On trying it out on his friends and relations, the results, needless to say, surprise him.

I think a large part of people's photo issues is you don't get to talk if you're on a photograph. I think a lot of people put more effort into talking good than looking good, which is fair enough I guess.
