Actually I've been thinking about this a little, especially when I visited Italy this summer for the first time in ages and had a load of local and rather colourful history explained to me. Much as one has to take people on their own terms, I did find it pretty difficult to make a connection....sitting at the men's end of the table while people worried on my behalf for the girlfriend - *not* my wife ?!!??! - that I'd left, unprotected, back home...well, you get the idea.

Does poor anger management count as a tradition? I think I get that from my mom, who got it from her father, who got it from god knows where. I very rarely lose my temper, but I did this morning when my hairdrier stopped working so I smashed it on the edge of the sink. Not the best way to deal with things.
