Apparently, I left replying to this thrad so long that Liger and Deva already said everything I was going to...

I don't have a problem with this out of an attachment to the character in the Milne books I read as a child because I have the same first name as him, I have a problem with it because what I got from the idea that being a boy doesn't actually mean you have to be a boy, but means you can be anything, I don't see coming from anywhere else.

It was a pretty fucking helpful idea to have, too.

You know, when I say Disney seems to be altering the gender but not the characteristics...

And you say

A "tomboy" is still a girl

You look like you're not paying attention, Moominliger.

I apologize.

When I said "A tomboy is still a girl, etc." I was responding to "But in that case, why make her a tomboy?" which I believed was a response to my concern that the replacement of Christopher Robin with a girl may serve only to reinforce masculine stereotypes. Alas, Deva was able to articulate that point a lot better than I was.

As for whether the characteristics have been changed...well, the new character has the appearance of being irritatingly "spunky", but I have yet to see her in action, so I could be wrong.
