I'm glad to be descended from animals. They're cool. Who's with me?

I sometimes feel a bit bad about eating 'em.

There's an obvious "You eat monkeys?" joke here, but I'm not going to be the one to make it.

Yeah, count me in. Animals are ace.

If only they weren't so... edible.

Strangely, monkeys and apes are some of my least favorite creatures. I much prefer rabbits, dogs and pretty much every lizard and marsupial.

On a vaguely related note, I just found out today that you can own sugar gliders and they make great pets. I've convinced myself that I do, in fact have room for more animals in my apartment.

i love giraffes. What an awesomely awkward-looking creature. And, man, are they adorable.

Giraffes are indeed ace. I love the twisted evolutionary logic that has a creature which lives on stuff it gets from high up growing a really, really long neck instead of wings or a different stomach.

Evolution's pretty damn cool itself, actually.

Well I never! There I go out of my way and link a video that clearly shows, how we´re obviously not descended from animals, and there you go and disagree. The cheek! You make the baby dubya cry.

It is indeed, so can we be clear on how it works?

You are NOT descended from apes. Rather, you and apes are descended from a common ancestor.

I still get to eat animals though, right?

Eat away. remember, many of them would eat you.

Oh, and Mist, I can't decide if that video is terrifying or hilarious. Thanks, either way.

The Bosun has a really weird toy giraffe with a short neck.

how wide is the category 'apes'?
what is and isnt an ape, and why?

I heart monkeys. Especially the "leetle" ones with the exquisite faces.

Are you talking taxonomically or in terms of human evolution?

Personally I think apes are great and if I had one wish it would be for an army of apes to do my bidding.

me?
well, both.
i mean, what is the measure of a monkey?
or an ape?

One of the things that I like about animals is that tigers cuddle pandas.

I like it when.

I would shag a monkey. A sexy monkey. Can't say that about many breeds of animal. Earthworms, for instance, are a lousy lay. And Guinea Pigs can disappoint.

As Dane Cook says: "How pumped would you be driving home from work knowing that, somewhere in your place, there's a monkey you're gonna battle?! That's awesome!"

That's not actually why giraffes have long necks. Apparently they evolved primarily for fighting other giraffes.

I'm proud to descend on animals.

I mean, descend from animals. To vegetables. What, I ask; though this might be a stupid science question; is the last common vegetable descendant of men and... err. Other vegetables?
I might post, erronously, in the drinking thread about now.

PS: Can anyone remember that imagist/symbolist/surrealist French poet who wrote shitloads using nought but the ; as punctuation?

Oh yeah? Well then how do you explain my mother's hairy knuckles and sloping brow, smart guy?

Close but no trumpet, my swishy princess. And, come on! I really wanna know about the last common vegetable!

I sometimes feel a bit bad about eating 'em.

I used to too. Going vegetarian fixed that right up though.

Animals rock. Maybe they taste pretty good, but I think they deserve better than that...

I second Jake... Some of them wanna eat you. Reciprocity is the mother of altruism!
