Promethea annotation

I've agonized a teeny bit over what section to put this under, but this seemed the most functional.

Anyone interested in working up a little Promethea annotation a la Jess Nevins' League of Extraordinary Gentleman site? I don't think it's as deeply referenced as LoEG, but if someone who really knew their Crowley & so on went through it with a fine-toothed comb, some interesting facets might be revealed. Also, I've detected a couple of 'easter eggs' referring to Moore's earlier books -- for instance, Benny Solomon owns a bowl or something that seems to depict the seance from Swamp Thing's Crisis story.

Don't know how useful I'll be, but it sounds like a good excuse to re-read my back issues of promethea, so I'm in.

What's an annotation again?

Yeah I could re-read my collection, I'm only missing three issues so far.

What did you have in mind Q?

Annotation: picking out the juicy bits from the dialogue and art and explaining waht they reference, foreshadow, imply, etc. A 'reader's guide'.

Stricty speaking, it probably belongs in Comics.

I thought so, too, but I also thought it overlapped w/Magick. I put it here because it'd be a collaborative effort, but I don't object to moving it.

Here's Jess Nevins's site, for reference. I don't see why the notes on Promethea shouldn't be done more or less the same way.

It's clear that Moore draws a lot from Crowley, whose work I don't know much about. I'd also like to connect the marginalia -- all those sun-masks and heiroglyphics between panels, and those shapeshifting things throughout the Immateria -- to symbols relating to what's being discussed in the panels. I'm sure there are connections, but I only have vague ideas as to what they might be. And the self-reference, such as Benny Solomon's bowl. Plus anything anyone else ferretted out.

Now that I've proposed it, I'm not sure how to proceed. I guess we should get out a notebook and reread what issues we've got, then reconvene & discuss it in some manner.

Someone's already started: a good companion on the journey.

Somebody ought to invite Eroom Nala over to Barbelith...

This fella, by the way, maintains a list of links to comics annotations.

Hrm, I looked for something like htis a few months ago and couldn't find anything. Should've doublechecked. Well, this person seems to have it well in hand. Any need for us to duplicate the effort?

Why duplicate it when we can co-opt it? Bring hir into the fold, like...

Or, for that matter, I'm sure "Eroom Nala" could use some contributors to hir annotations: The Bomb began with one man's Invisibles annotations (Jay Babcock's original Barbelith site), and from it grew this. Same thing could be induced to happen with that Promethea site: drop an e-mail and volunteer you services, all of yez!

Hello it's Eroom Nala himself here.
If anyone would like to help with the annotations in any way just write to eroomnala@yahoo.com.au
