New books to look forward to...

Kit-Cat Club

15:19 / 23.10.02

New DWJ - oh, be still my beating heart, it's a semi-sequel to Deep Secret. But it's not out till April the 7th, which is just cru-ell... I'm not going to read the synopsis again though, I don't want to know too much.

What are you waiting for?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

08:22 / 24.10.02

The new Ken McLeod- the last part of the "Engines of Light" trilogy, which promises all manner of hard-sf types agonising over different forms of left-wing politics. And some aliens that smoke dope, too. And (I hope) some more dinosaurs.

I liked the dinosaurs.

And the radical politics. And the fact that he never really seems to have bad guys- just people with differing opinions on how to make the world better- often with tragic or at the least unpleasant consequences.

I can't fucking wait.

Well, I don't know if it really counts, but I'm salivating over some rare secondhand Crowley books I've got coming. Editions of The Equinox published by mad Crowley heir Marcello Motta. Have I just transfered my adolescent comics nerdery to something more intellectual? Yup!

As for new stuff, well, i heard talk of a new William Gibson a while back - Pattern Recognition. Like to know more if anyone's heard owt?

pointless and uncalled for

Not yet but my life is a littany of patiently waiting for the next hot sauced dipped chicken nugget that is the new Gibson masterpiece.

Yeah but the Gibson thing is really shady though - there's been no proper publicity or anything - just vauge mentions in a few places. I get the impression that it may be a project that they were unsure about or perhaps someting withdrawn.

No, I lied! Never start to talk cobblers up without checking Google!

Baz Auckland

13:18 / 25.10.02

Irvine Welsh's Porno just came out here. I'm excited to read it. Woo! New Gibson! AND Dave Eggers's new book is out sometime this month too!

Shiny new Donna Tartt in a carrier bag under my desk. Weekend now accounted for.

The Strobe

16:50 / 25.10.02

New Donna Tartt, oh yes, could be interesting. And, in August: new Neal Stephenson. In the 17th century. Which will most likely be super-fun.

The Return Of Rothkoid

06:32 / 26.10.02

Ooooh. New Stephenson. Oooh. I take it it's not the second part of the trilogy?

I saw the Tartt in Borders today: read the blurb but wasn't sufficiently convinced to part with $27 just yet... reports?

Regrettable Juvenilia

08:56 / 26.10.02

Gibson's new novel is set in the present day? Oh yes. Oh yes indeed. I'm there...

Rage

02:25 / 02.11.02

Can't wait for the new Hunter S. Thompson. It's titled "Kingdom of Fear: Loathsome Secrets of a Star-Crossed Child in the Final Days of the American Century." I heard he hates Bush more than he hated Nixon.
